Granada Cycle Tour May 2010

Terry,

thank you for looking after us on our cycle tour. We arrived with Linda and her injured foot and we were worried we may not be able to cycle at all. You offered us support and ‘total flexibilitwhich enabled us to actually complete the tour. Your support was hugely reassuring throughout – thank you!

2nd Climbing holiday with Alhambra Rambler

2nd Climbing holiday with Alhambra Rambler

Twelve months on and my feet were beginning to itch! The urge to get away was once again getting the better of me, more to the point I had unfinished business in Spain, the thought of fresh Tapa’s, cold beer and awesome climbing was getting too overwhelming so it was once again time to rally the troops. First off I contacted Alhamra Rambler to give Terry a heads up so he could begin making the necessary arrangements, from then on the wheels were well and truly in motion.

With the Sutcliffe seal of approval and the promise of great climbing it only took a couple of text messages to get everyone on board, eight in total including Adam ‘Jee Unit’ Jeewooth, a member of the British Bouldering team and up and coming sport climbing wad, Nick ‘mighty mouse’ Moulden and of course all the usual suspects! Such is the diversity of the area we also took out a couple of mountain bikers in the form of Shaun and Warren, the later a ex member of the Great British triathlon team was later responsible for flogging the local guide in to submission in true Brit fashion.

We were greeted at the airport and chauffeured to our accommodation, this was set to be the theme of the week as all transport to and from crags and bars was organised by Terry, a welcomed break meaning everyone could have a beer without having to nominate a driver. The accommodation was fantastic as was the food and the view!

The first two days of climbing was at Los Cohorras and it quickly became apparent that Jee Unit and Nick meant business climbing many of the harder classics in super quick time Venga! Venga! Echoed around the canyon, as Jee impressed the locals with his on-sight efforts! Nick also impressed when he managed to stack two of his weasel fingers in a mono and make a 7c look piss! The rest of the crew concentrated on pushing their redpoint grade and with successful ascents for everyone it was set to be a great trip.

When you get eight blokes all buzzing after a successful day, mix it with fine weather and even finer beer a certain amount of chaos is to be expected! So the following day’s drive out to Loja was a quiet one. Everyone hidden behind sunglasses stomachs churning on the windy road out to the crag all except Jee who seemed unfazed by the previous nights exploits! The fuzz faded as we started climbing and it seemed that the success of the previous days was to continue in fine fashion. Jee put the clips in the classic 8a of the crag and I got psyched! With two falls already under my belt and everyone waiting I had one last go! I wobbled across the last few moves and with ‘nothing left’ clipping the chain was a proper fight! But it was well worth it for the cold beer that was waiting for me in the van.

The following day everyone took turns climbing an awesome line through a steep roof I was filming on a rope as I watched Nick cruise it for the second time showboating for the crowd! He was in his comfort zone chilling out! that was until I kicked him off as he passed me! Much to the delight of everyone watching, the high-pitched shrill of his scream however seemed to upset the local wasps! Clearly not happy they swarmed a little bit to close for comfort so we had to make a hasty retreat back to the van and the safety of the cool box.

The next day Shaun and Warren had the pleasure of a local mountain bike guide and decided that despite the glaring sun they were going to make the most of the opportunity. Six hours later the boys turned up musing how they had just brought the poor bloke to his knees! As they re- hydrated on beer I began to wonder if these guy’s were actually human, as they never looked tired, always got pissed and were the first out of bed every day. This seemed to put our mediocre efforts on the rock into some kind of perspective, that night I vowed I would start biking when I got home!

The trip coincided with the birthday of one of our hosts Lisa and a big birthday bash had been organised that would take place on what would be our last night in Spain. We received our invite and with promise of local beer and talent we duly accepted. The party was a huge success as friends had travelled from England for the occasion, everyone was in good spirit as they hit the dance floor we might not speak Spanish but Big Fish Little Fish Cardboard Box proves universal on any dance floor! Thanks again to Alhambra Rambler for making it all run so smoothly and thanks to Spain for having such wicked climbing.

Memories of our guided walking holiday 21-28 June

We have had a wonderful time down here. It’s hard to express how nice it has been. The bridges were narrow, we could not look down. We had lunch in the shade and some in the sun and in the creek the ladies cooled down.

You did everything we asked you to do. We loved the ride to the Sierra Nevada. We really enjoyed the day your friend John came with us..even beers in the cool box…fantastic! We even swam in the sea and had a massage on the beach. You took us to marvellous caves at Nerja. We are so happy to getting knowing you and this place, that from the outside we though would be a desert, but you showed us the diamonds inside. We will have to come back to see more.

Thanks for taking us round this place you love so much, and we can see the people here love you just as we do.

Cycle tour June 2009

Dear Jon,
Rather than mail your proforma  I would prefer to give you feedback on our recent holiday via E Mail:-

1. Content of webpage brochure. Very good 4
2.Booking procedure. Very Good 4
3.Transfer arrangements Excellent 5
4.Tour Package Excelent 5
5.Route Instructions Excellent 5
6. Accomodation varied in style & type from location to location ranging from Very good to
Excellent 4-5. All were good value for money. We found the Enrea partcularly
comfortable.
7. Our holiday experience overall was excellent.
Of particular note:
*Bikes were new, fit for purpose** and well sorted.
*The organisation by Alhambra Ramblers was exemplary:-
The routes were very well thought out and easy to follow.
Terry and John provided magnificent support on a daily basis, taking the trouble to follow our
route until he caught up with us to establish that we were OK , before moving on to
complete delivery of our luggage. John and Terry also took the trouble to
revalidate the routes where necessary as there has evidently been a substantial
road repair programme under way in the region for some months. Route changes
were therefore communicated to us in a very timely manner.
Terry and John also met up with us on the final day to ask for feedback and to
discuss any ideas the we had to develop the style of holidays on offer via Hooked
on Cycling.  I will certainly be in touch with you on this later in the year as we are
keen to further explore this region of Spain.
**The only area for improvements that I could suggest for this year’s holiday were
simple enhancements to the bikes. viz: fit a second bottle, and provide one mileage
computer per pair of bikes.
(one 500 ml bottle is a bit small to deal with 12km climbs in 35 degree heat but I
appreciate that the requirement to cycle in the height of Summer was entirely
our own choice!  The computer is very useful in the event of missing a turn for
example.)
8. Previous customer experience + websearch.
I hope that the above is of use.
Will be in touch in due course to discuss posbilities for 2010.
Best regards,
Wayne Jones & Jackie Garland

Cycling tour Oct 2009

Hi Both

Should have been in touch earlier, unforgivable, thanks so much for all the effort you both put in to making our trip such a success, in different ways we all work very hard and probably don’t take time out often enough, I know Brian is under a lot of pressure presently as his business is largely marketing which is obviously tight at the moment.  It was great to be able to completely relax for a few days. The house was great and we all got on like a house on fire. You cannot think about work when you are riving your b*****cks off up a hill in 30 degrees.
I went for a ride down the canal from Colne through Burnley out towards Clayton Le Moors on Saturday, quite a contrast from the sea front at Torre del mar a week earlier.
I’m sure we did more in just a few days than we could have managed under our own steam in 10 thanks to your co-ordination not to mention the great food Lisa.
All the very best
Robin and the Hombres
